The video clips worked well in adding another layer of understanding to the material that they were presenting.
What I learned:
They play basketball and drink a lot at tribal gatherings.
Alcoholism, basketball, and storytelling brings the reservation together.
They have a love/hate relationship with alcohol that is a part of the culture but also is at the root of many problems in the society such as domestic violence.
Basketball has become almost a cultural tradition as the bouncing of the ball can be compared to the beating of a drum.
Questions/Comments:
I think that literature that discusses the Native Americans search for identity in the present day is interesting and relevant and should be more widely read.
