Well, what can I say about DeParle's article in The Times. I think that this article is a perfect article to parallel with The Glass Castle.
I think it clearly not only talks about the difference classes of the society, but also the social construction
it have become, how we are raised to think in a certain way, and "do what we are suppose to do".
However, I could help thinking the way the article show what parenting should be about, and the responsibilities that
comes with it. This is something I personally think that the parents in the book turned a blind eye to.
The article shows the problems with parenting and the need of be able to pay the bills as a single parent, not to mention
the hard work a single parent need to work to be able to pull through to get to the next day, with the pressure to be able to have food on the table every month,
This is something really interesting if paralleling to the book, where the addiction and self pity makes
the parents not being able to see the severeness or the size of the problem with not being able to feed your family everyday.
However, I do love the fact that The New York Times always writes in a way that makes you think and understanding the real meaning with "life".
