HOPE
This image evokes that in terms of hope everyone should be created equal no matter who they love. I hate knowing that people are not created equal because of that and this image is important pertaining to the American Dream because we the people want there to be peace, we want to live in a world with no inequality and I believe we can achieve it. American is stepping closer to having faulty with having some states have same-sex marriage and not having the "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy. The effects of this has the American identity is America setting an example to the rest of world to accept people who are different and having America just a more pleasant place to live.
DESPAIR
Despair is the loss of hope and that can very discouraging to one person much less a whole family. This picture shows a family looking dirty in a round down car, no telling if they live there or are they hungry? I doubt this is what this family had imagined for an "American Dream" this image also effects the American identity because the homeless percentage may be going up and in the some peoples definition of the "American Dream" a family is suppose to have money to support one's family.

I agree with your Hope Image, and how you related it to identity. Yes, this is a world wide message, it is global and we all want equality regardless of your sexual preference. We are all human with basic needs, our sexual preference does not identify us any different. Personally I do not like to label myself. Yes, society identifies me as lesbian, but I am not just a lesbian. I am a girl, a student, a lover, a daughter, sister, hard worker, creative person , friendly, compassionate... I am a proud Mexican who is in touch of her roots and loves to cook authentic Mexican dishes and share them with my loved ones. Where do you see lesbian in all this? I identify myself as just Elba, I love who ever I feel comfortable and happy with regardless of their sex or gender. How does this make me any different? What is normal? How do you identify normal anyway?
